Ask Air Force Village (AFV) residents why they moved to the Village and you'll hear these reasons...a lot!

  1. We wanted the freedom to travel - to lock up, leave and know the staff will watch over things.
  2. Paying bills, finding help and dealing with real estate taxes and insurance just got old.
  3. We wanted to expand our social network.
  4. We were lured to sunny Texas so we could play golf, tennis and enjoy outdoor life year 'round.
  5. There's more to life than mowing the grass or waiting for the plumber to arrive.
  6. We were thrilled someone else is doing the cooking.
  7. We don't want to be a burden to our family.
  8. No more housework means I have time to indulge my artistic interests!
  9. We anticipated we might need health care in the future and love the idea of continued care right here where we know people, feel safe and trust the caregivers.

These are the voices of those who have made the decision to move to Air Force Village. Occasionally, you may hear the hesitancy of retirees who aren't quite ready to make The Big Move to a retirement community. Here's what these wary retirees say, and here's what our savvy residents tell them:

There are too many old people.

You're only as old as you feel. People at AFV are active, smart, well-traveled, interesting, mentally and physically energetic ... and we all believe we're younger than the calendar says!

I don't want to lose my independence.

You actually can be MORE INDEPENDENT at AFV. You're free to take extended trips, leave at a moment's notice and go places you always dreamed of but couldn't handle when consumed by the demands of homeownership. You get a renewed sense of purpose from all the positive energy around you.

I'm reluctant to downsize.

Studies show that Americans generally use only 20-30% of the space in their homes. Simplifying can be refreshing and freeing. Purging our unworn clothing, extraneous furnishings, accumulation of dishes and cookware, and garage junk relieves us of a burden we didn't even know we were carrying. Moving is an excellent excuse to get rid of stuff we don't need. You'll probably never miss any of it!

I'm not ready.

If not now, when? We all hope we've got many healthy, active years ahead of us, so let's have fun! Air Force Village is a great place to make friends, learn, grow and make the most of every moment. Then, should we need it, we've got excellent health care options right here at the Village ... and the staff makes it easy to transition into assisted living or skilled care.

Our military training teaches us to be leaders and decision-makers - to forge a good plan and follow it. Moving to Air Force Village while you're still young and healthy is a VERY GOOD PLAN.
