Resident Ambassadors: They'll Give You the Inside Scoop!

Residents

If you're going to buy a new car, would you rather talk to a car salesman ... or a friend who already owns the same model?

Along that line of thinking, Air Force Village suspects you'd rather talk to a resident who lives, eats and socializes at the Village ... then talk to the friendly AFV marketing folks. After all, who has the most convincing credentials for giving you the straight story? The people who live here! As Resident Ambassador Colonel Gene Tucker (USAF-Ret), says: "Someday these folks could be our neighbors and friends ... so we know it's important to tell them the unembellished truth." Truth is, says Col Tucker, "Air Force Village is a great place to live."

He and Mary enjoy traveling occasionally with the AFV marketing team to visit prospective residents at events around Texas and beyond. And when prospects come to AFV for a visit, Gene and Mary Tucker are among the Resident Ambassadors who are delighted to show them around, enjoy a meal and introduce them to other AFV residents.

Col Tucker says, "The Resident Ambassadors can effectively address issues such as the camaraderie you find in associating with people who have similar backgrounds, what it's like to live here, how we enjoy the dining and activities. We live the lifestyle and can give them honest answers to all their questions and concerns."

He says his wife can talk about how much she loves having housekeeping services "and how the staff becomes like family. And I can tell people that in my lifetime I've cut enough grass and painted and plastered and driven nails and I don't need to do that anymore. Our maintenance people are the best and many of them have been here for years."

He says the question of downsizing is a common one, "so we came up with a new term: 'right-sizing.' We tell people they'll find they have a lot of latitude to modify floor plans to suit their needs and that the Village staff is very flexible about helping people find just the right floor plan." When he and Mary saw their cottage two years ago, they said immediately, "This is home." They have a 1,675 square foot cottage that is everything they wanted in a retirement home. It is beautiful, personalized and "right-sized" for the Tuckers.

Of all the attributes they appreciate in their AFV lifestyle, Col Tucker says the one they most appreciate, "may be the availability of transportation. Even though we have two cars, we use Village transportation to go shopping, downtown and to the many sites and events San Antonio has to offer. It's great not having to worry about traffic or parking."

AFV Resident Ambassadors voluntarily lend their services to the AFV marketing staff because they have confidence in the management and future, they feel connected to and embraced by the community, they cherish the camaraderie they find from day one ... and they enjoy the opportunity to spread the word to other retired officers from all uniformed branches.
