Officers' Spouses' Clubs
Air Force Village (AFV) exists today as a legacy of Air Force Wives. During the early 1960s, 235 clubs raised over $2 million to help fund the construction of the first community, Village I. Many of those early members of the spouses’ clubs are today residents enjoying retirement at AFV. They recall with pride and humor the shared sense of responsibility to see Air Force Village become a reality. They did that through different fundraising events including spaghetti dinners, raffles, fashion shows, and thrift shop sales. Through the years members of the Officers’ Spouses’ Clubs have generously supported nearly 500 widows. Officers’ Spouses’ Clubs worldwide continue to provide support for the core charitable mission of AFV. Today with changing times and reduction of AF size, the role of the AF Spouses’ Clubs has changed. Air Force Village is grateful for the continued bond that Air Force spouses have with us. It is always a special treat when AFV hosts our Annual Meeting and invites club delegates to come and visit. With lots of interaction with our residents, these active duty spouses receive a wonderful education not only about life in the Air Force but life in general, meeting the remarkable heroes who call Air Force Village home. Delegates see firsthand the value of their support. And they fall in love with Air Force Village and our mission. |
